Cleaning Make-up Brushes - This Works For Me

It's that time of month. Brush cleaning time. Above: my make-up brushes.

You may very well be far better at this than I am. You probably clean your make-up brushes every week. Feel free to scoff at me. I don't mind admitting I'm a bit lazy about cleaning my brushes.

Ok I confess.

I'm even lazier than that.

It's not monthly, but more like once a season that I get around to cleaning my brushes.

Can Eating This Fern Protect Your Skin From The Suns Damaging Rays?

Is it possible to take a pill that helps your body create its own natural sun protectant from within?

Forever and a day ago, Alicyn asked me for some input on the plant you see above – Calaguala. Is it really an all-natural sun protectant with built-in antioxidant properties?

With the sunny and warmer season fast approaching (for the umpteenth time since Alicyn asked me), it's time we had a proper look at this ingredient and see if it really can do what 'they say'.

Make-up - Pressing Several Colors in One Container

If you're anything like me, you never use just one color 'as is', but often frequently constantly mix and match your powder make-up to create your ideal this-is-my-must-have-shade-for-today.

Instead of opening several containers and moving the brush back and forth between them, why not press all your favorites into a single, all-purpose, mix-and-match collection of color fabulousness?

Today, I'm going to show you how I made this 4-in-one color collection of pressed powders.

Battling Shea Butter Graininess - and Winning

Shea butter graininess has been a subject on this blog several times. I work with shea in several products, but have always found it a temperamental ingredient to work with. It needs constant babysitting and monitoring if there is to be any chance of a grain-free texture.

In short, working with shea butter is a bit of a battle. Unless of course, you happen to know a few shea-graininess-battling tricks.

Enter Jonna.

I'm tempted to tell you that's her in the pic above.

In actual fact – it is.

But only in my mind.

Developing Lipstick - Batch 6

I've been working on a lipstick formula for just under 2 years now. The goal is to combine moisture, nourishment, comfort, longevity, and fabulous color in one product.

Piece of cake, right?

On a Scale of 0.01 to 10

If you've ever tried to weigh something as light as dried calendula petals, you'll appreciate what's going on in this picture.

Meet my latest digital scale. Not only does it measure from as low as 0.01 grams to a maximum of 300 grams, but it fits neatly into a pocket or purse.

That's pretty accurate, and pretty darn handy.

Aloe Butter - Really?

Happy April Fools Day. This is a fitting ingredient for this particular day.

What you are viewing here is a butter that has been included in my ongoing quest for the best-butter-for-lotion-bars test series. The white lump you see above came from a container labelled  'Aloe Butter'.

You: "Aloe butter? Really, Lise?  Is this an April fools thing or have you gone a bit butter bonkers?"

"Yes, I went a bit butter bonkers and yes, it's not really aloe butter – except it really says aloe butter on the label".
