The Story of Formulators Kitchen

Even though this has been ongoing for over 2 years, I haven't really written about it on the blog - official-like - until now.

Today, I'd like to introduce you to Formulators Kitchen.

It Started as a Vision

Because I pretty much slugged along on my own learning how to make cosmetics, it has always been a dream of mine to see something like Formulators Kitchen.

The vision was to create an open-source community where formulators of personal care products could (and would) come together and share their knowledge, passion, and experience with each other.

This place would have resource-sharing sections that included a formula database with originally developed formulas. There would be a wikipedia-type database of ingredients where everyone could (and would) contribute. There would be sections with informational charts, enlightening articles, tips, lists of ingredients suppliers, and more.

This WIKI-style community would also include a discussion forum where folks could find topic-specific discussions on everything from skincare to formulating products for textured hair, soap making, and designing perfume.

Members would include everything from hardcore ‘greenies’ to the ‘petrochemical friendly’ and despite different approaches, everyone would be equally supportive, helpful, and friendly.

Well guess what.

This vision has become a reality.

And before you start wowing at my amazing capabilities, I better come clean and tell you I couldn't possibly have done all of this on my own.

Please allow me to introduce you to the team who helped make this happen.

The Kitchen Team

It has been my distinct pleasure to build and shape the Kitchen with these knowledgeable and talented people: Colin Sanders (on left), Rebecca Wright (to my right), and Duncan Abbott (far right).

When we started this project and sat down to compare notes on our focus areas, we realized that between us, we have over 100 years of formulating experience and span a wide range of expertise.

That sparked an additional collaboration that we have made public right here.

The Passion is The Best Part

The best part about working with these fab folks is the passion we all share for this work.

Do you know how incredibly cool it is to work with people who get giddy happy every time a product they have developed hits the market - even when they've been doing it for ages?

It's positively exhilarating!

The Kitchen Name

Several people have been kind enough to congratulate me on coming up with the brilliant name Formulators Kitchen.

I wish I could take credit, but the name was Colin's idea. The rest of us fell in love with it immediately.

Now, if you need me, I'll be in The Kitchen.

Thanks for reading, and please feel free to pop over for a visit.
