Orange Powder for Skin and Hair
Although powdered orange peel (INCI: Citrus aurantium peel powder) is mainly taken as a health supplement for everything from weight loss to mucus suppression, it also offers benefits with topical application.
Fresh!Orange peel powder is said to be the perfect addition to a dry shampoo. I haven't tried it in this way - yet, but I am having fun getting to know this ingredient.
Used in Ayurvedic medicine both internally and externally, orange peel powder has a long history of uses.
Depending on where you check for information (a few links below), orange peel is attributed with the following properties
- stimulant - scalp and skin
- astringent - skin
- deep-cleansing (good for oily skin)
- helps increase shine on hair
- citrussy fragrance
It's that last one that had me instantly hooked and clicking 'add to cart' when I came across it at Aroma Zones website.
Multi-UsesSo far, I've been adding this powder to my no-soap face cleansers - both the dry ones (flowers-food-and-dirt) and the fat-based ones (bar-in-a-jar), as a component of my skin tonic (infusion), and straight up as a hair rinse (infusion).
As for effect – I'll be quite honest. There isn't really any wow factor attached to this ingredient – no promise of youth or anti-wrinkle magic, but that scent brings a tingly freshness to any mix, and that's really enough to make it a joy for me to work with.
On the still-to-try list
- added to a face mask
- added to a dry shampoo
- as an addition to a body scrub
Have you worked with this powder? How did you use it? What did you think of it?

WebMd- uses, safety and dosage
Once I tried an ayurvedic version of it with amla, brahmi, bringhraj and orange peel powder.
I liked it, it was good to my hair but I confess the texture was not the best: too grainy and it brittle a lot.
I modified the recipe and did it just with amla, orange powder and rhassoul and omg what a difference! Better texture, softer and wonderful.
I love this powder for my hair, which is oily, and for my face as a mask (mixed with other ingredients), I think it gives some kind of a glow to the face :)
