Merry Holidays

It's holiday time in Denmark and the country (well, pretty much all of Scandinavia) has closed up shop and is busy making mulled wine, setting out trays of goodies and preparing for non-stop hygge.

Hygge?

Hygge (pronounced hoo-geh) is a Danish word that doesn't translate into English easily – at least not in one word.

That picture up there is an attempt at describing hygge.

Hygge encompasses coziness, love, warmth, feeling-good-ness and quiet joy. Hygge can be a verb, and also an adjective.

Holiday time in Denmark is all about hygge. Regardless of which holiday (if any) you celebrate, I hope you have a 'hyggelig' time over the next few days.

I'm going to be busy 'hygging' with family and friends. This will involve the following

  • playing games
  • singing songs
  • eating goodies
  • preparing mulled wine
  • stoking the fire
  • spending time with family
  • lighting candles
  • sleeping late
  • wearing fluffy socks
  • passing out hugs
  • sharing smiles and laughter

Merry Happy Holiday to you.

See you in a few days!
