Working With Hyaluronic Acid - Powder vs Gel

Hyaluronic acid is a long-time staple in my stockroom – which, by the way, looks absolutely nothing like the romanticized image you see above.

A portion of my stockroom is packed in boxes at the moment, so I figured this generic photo of plant-based ingredients would be a lot more appealing than anything I could have photographed for you.

Now, back to hyaluronic acid (which, by the way, also would have looked far more boring than the photo above).

Hyaluronic acid has over the years magically found its way into many of my products – from eye and face creams to serums and gels.

Truth be told, I've had nothing but positive experiences with it – both in the lab and on the skin...

...right up until I started working with it as a powder.

Battling the Complacency of Ready-To-Use Ingredients

It's a constant dilemma. Which road to take? From a cosmetics ingredients perspective, there are oftentimes 2 choices.

Take Hyaluronic Acid...

Last year, I started working with hyaluronic acid from a different supplier. Instead of the easy-peasy no-worries pre-mixed gel I had been using for (several) years, it was time to get acquainted with this ingredient as it is most commonly available – in powdered form.

Because 'hy-acid' is an integral part of several of my products, this caused quite a bit of unavoidable reformulation – and a trip down a slightly rocky road.

I know what you're thinking.

The Best Way to Detox

Detoxing has become an integral part of the beauty and health industry – and a veritable jungle of options. There are courses, diets, programmes, and even beauty & personal care products that promise to draw out toxins, cleanse your body and leave you squeaky clean inside.

With all the undesirables we consume, are surrounded by and inhale on a daily basis, it stands to reason we need to detox, doesn't it?

So, what's the best way to detox?

Potions?

Pills?

Powders?

Patches?

Well, here's the good news: you already have a whole lot going on in the detox department.

LisaLise in Saponifier Magazine

My Flowers, Food, and Dirt face wash has been picked up by Saponifier magazine and they asked to interview me for an 'Around the World in Outstanding Designs' series.

Permission to be a little proud?

Thank you, because I am!

Lotus for Skin Care

You might be asking why one would want to use flowers, seeds, and herbs for skin care. I totally understand.

To some, it must seem a bit odd.

But stick with me, because the vibrant flower you see above contains skin-loving goodness. Its dried seeds make a powder that may not be much in the way of eye candy, but can be a whole lot in the way of skin pampering.

Today, we're going to take a look at the lotus flower (INCI: Nelumbo nucifera) and examine why it holds such high regard in the world of Ayurveda.

The Theme of the Year

This year - or a good part of it - has a theme. The picture above might give you a hint.

Have you guessed what it is?

The bare essentials!

All right, I'll be honest. There's actually a reason that is not entirely of my own choosing (well, ok it is, but not the time frame part).

Happy 2015!

Well, as fun as it was to party hearty and ring out the old year, it's time to remove the glitter and take a fresh look at the calendar.

Welcome to 2015!

Guess what?  It's going to be a fabulous year - full of discovery, wonder, and work that's so interesting and fun, it won't feel like work at all!
