The Ultimate Mascara - A New Quest Begins

Urtegaardens DIY mascara has been my staple for years. It is so easy to make and such a joy to use that I recommend it to anyone who shows even the slightest interest in doing their own make-up. Because it has been so effective, I never really thought about developing my own mascara.

Until now.

Something unexpected happened recently, and ever since, all kinds of thoughts have been swirling around in my head. They don't seem to want to go away.

Some of them started at the onset of this case study.
Others came about when I recently discovered a new function of my comfort zone eye gel.

Piece of Jigsaw Cake, Right?

When I get swirly thoughts such as these, it's like having a nearly finished jigsaw puzzle laying about on the table. It is quite literally impossible to ignore.

Most of the picture is already put together.

You can see all the remaining pieces.

You're pretty sure there are none missing.

It couldn't possibly take too terribly long to fit them together and finish the darn thing.

And before you know it, you're in it up to your elbows.

But then again, when it comes to cosmetics, I've always loved a challenge.

This Quest Begins with a Simple Question

What if it were possible to create a mascara that doesn't just layer itself on top of eyelashes, but actually helps them grow stronger, faster, and thicker?

(To envision this properly, you're going to have to disregard EVERY mascara advertisement you have ever seen in your entire life)

I'm talking about (trying to) formulate a mascara that really 'feeds' lashes – real lashes – YOUR lashes.

Research is ongoing, and the formula for batch one is nearly finished. The development of this product will be documented on this blog.

Stay tuned!

Do Tell

Can you walk past a nearly finished jigsaw puzzle and not be tempted to finish it? Be honest.

Hmmmm... I would be interested to hear about this too. I don't wear eye-makeup or mascara as my eyes have been to sensitive in the past. Most mascaras make my eyes itchy and natural mascaras tend to be very expensive. I would love to from time-to-time where mascara. At the moment I simply wear mineral make-up and lipstick.

Hey there Kelly! You are really and truly not alone. I am amazed at how many ladies cannot tolerate or are irritated by many commercial brand mascaras. It's an expensive quest to try and find one that works (I started making my own make-up after having troubles with eyebrow pencils). I promise to update on this. And no worries about the grammar - I understood! :)

Sounds amazing! I will be looking forward to your results. I have very sensitive eyes also. I also use mineral makeup and very seldom wear mascar, only for special events and usually suffer. I would love to be able to wear it every day.

Hi JNC - Yup, ideas and goals are not lacking--- now we'll have to see if what I am trying to do is even possible. I also belong to the sensitive eyes group (let me tell you there are so many of us that I think we are a force to be reckoned with!)

This is such a great idea. It fits beautifully with the way many natural ingredients work i.e. fragrance oils just work as a scent but essential oils can be therapeutic too. Looking forward to following along on this quest.
