Coily Kinky Curly - A New Concoction!

Here is a sneak peek at a serum Lola and I are working on. It shall hopefully help bust (or at the very least alleviate) the single strand knot problem that plagues many coily-kinky-curly haired ladies.

In Lab 1: The Base is Created

I've created a guar gel as the basis for this serum. Guar is a plant-based alternative to silicone, providing a protective layer to each strand of hair that also offers extra slip. (read more about the amazing capabilities of guar here)

In Lab 2: The Final Ingredient is Added

A final ingredient will be added to this gel to give extra slip and glide to curls. I'll let my partner continue this when this potion arrives at her lab. Right now, I have to get it packaged and sent to her!

To be continued....

(whoosh!)

Very interested in this....Single strand knots are really plaguing me right now and I need a better solution than any I've come up with so far. Please post when you have some results!

Califa's Lap I'd love to hear what you are doing now to alleviate (even though you say it isn't working). I promise to update as the info is there- both Lola and I are very interested in finding a solution. To tell you the truth, I'm a bit disappointed (and surprised) the industry doesn't have a single thing on offer for this problem.

Mostly I've been making sure to keep my hair moisturized by misting it with a combination of aloe vera juice and rosewater. Then I apply olive oil or coconut oil to the ends of my hair to seal that mositure in. That worked really well during the humid summer months where I live but now that it's winter here and the air is dryer it seems that my tried and true spritzing mix just isn't working at all. I was just noticing earlier how many single strand knots have popped up on my hair and it frustrates me. I'm looking for a more intensive deep conditioner for my hair, as I'm hoping that will help as well. Thanks for a wonderful blog and listening to me whine about my hair complaints. Good luck on finding an effective, all natural solution!

OOh this is great input! It's not whining at all. Your aloe and rose combo sounds absolutely divine. I can imagine, though, that colder weather could make this combo less effective. Have you considered replacing the rosewater and aloe with a light layer of oil? Spraying on oil disperses it in a super thin layer. I use a regular spray bottle to disperse oil when I am mixing eyeshadow base and need to add a light layer to the powder so it will bind for pressing. It's possible to add an almost undetectable amount, but enough to do some good, so I'm thinking this might do well for hair as well... just a thought. (and you are welcome to 'whine' here any time!)

Thank you Sonia - then Lola and I better hurry up and get it ready (fingers crossed it is a knot-busting miracle)... :)

Hello,
I just found your blog via Lola and I love it! Keep up the great work!!! Also looking forward to the CKC gel, I have tried making a guar gum based leave in before as well, but I didn't mix it very well, had flakes.

@MS. DIY Well you just made my day! Thanks so much for your kind words! I'm curious about your guar gel not mixing well.. did the gel have flakes in the actual gel or did it flake up in your hair?
I've tried several different suppliers for guar and no 2 are alike.. guar is a bit of a bucket of worms to work with. I'd love to hear more about what you did and what you weren't satisfied with.
